CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Chesapeake Police are investigating a death at a gas station early Monday morning.

According to officials, around 7:10 a.m., officers were dispatched to a gas station near the intersection of Gilmerton Road and Canal Drive for reports of an unconscious man in the parking lot.

Upon arrival to the scene, crews attempted life-saving measures on the man, but were ultimately unsuccessful. The man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Photos from the scene show much of the area taped off, multiple officers searching the area and a black tarp near a gas pump.

Police said they believe the death was due to a drug overdose, but are continuing to investigate the incident.
