Arrest made after boy injured in Portsmouth shooting

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Portsmouth Police said they have arrested the suspected shooter of a boy who was shot on Cherokee Road Thursday.

Ahmuhd Lashawn Evans, 22, was arrested and taken into custody in Virginia Beach Friday by the Portsmouth Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit, with help from Virginia Beach Police, after a boy was shot in the 1000 block of Cherokee Road around 10:02 a.m. Thursday.


The boy was found to have a non life-threatening gunshot wound, and he was taken to a local hospital.

Police said this is an active investigation with the Major Crime Unit.
