CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. (WAVY) — Police in Chincoteague say a woman’s body was found on the southern end of the island on April 30.
The medical examiner’s office in Norfolk identified the woman as 42-year-old Jennifer Rae Barnes, who had been reported missing on April 18. She was last seen on Thursday, April 16 around midnight, police said.
Her cause of death will be determined when the autopsy is complete, but preliminary results found no signs of trauma.
The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations and the Virginia State Police Search and Rescue Team assisted Chincoteague Police with the investigation.
