EXMORE, Va. (WAVY) — A 21-year-old Painter man died after losing control of his vehicle and striking a tree. State police say speed and the lack of a seatbelt appeared to be factors.
At 5:55 a.m. Friday, state police were called to investigate a single vehicle crash on Bayside Road, between Frankton Road and Rodgers Drive, that resulted in the death of a driver.
A preliminary investigation determined the driver, Gavin Lewis Hopkins, 21, lost control of the vehicle, ran off the roadway and struck a tree. Hopkins died upon impact.
It is unknown if alcohol played a contributing factor in the crash.
