Inmate accused of breaking water sprinkler head at regional jail

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — An inmate of Western Tidewater Regional Jail is being accused of breaking a water sprinkler head at the jail. 

Suffolk police say jail officials filed a complaint against the inmate, 21-year-old Carlton Kearney. The incident happened on Jan. 12 and caused water damage at the jail, according to police.


Police say Kearney is being charged with tampering of the fire system in a correctional facility.

Kearney was nearly eight months in to a one-year sentence for destruction of property and assault and battery charges at the time of the alleged incident.
