Hampton woman charged with DUI after New Kent pursuit ends in fiery crash

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Hampton woman has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI) after a late-night pursuit in New Kent County ended in a fiery crash.

At about 12:20 a.m. on Monday, April 14, a deputy with the New Kent County Sheriff’s Office tried to conduct a traffic stop on a driver who reportedly was not maintaining their lane while moving westbound on Interstate 64.

According to authorities, the driver failed to stop for the deputy and continued to move westbound. A pursuit was initiated and continued for multiple miles, then ended when the driver lost control and hit a tree.

The driver, identified as 35-year-old Tacara Skeeter-Wilson, of Hampton, was pulled from her vehicle by deputies “before it became fully engulfed in flames,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Skeeter-Wilson was taken to a hospital for treatment of her moderate injuries, where she remains as of the time of reporting.

Further charges, in addition to her DUI charge, are pending.
