Fight involving 8 students at Cradock MS prompts lockdown

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A fight that involved several students Thursday morning at Cradock Middle School prompted a lockdown, officials say.

Principal Shawn Howard sent a message to parents and guardians that stated the incident started around 11:40 a.m. in the school’s cafeteria when two students began fighting.

Howard said other students chose sides and joined in the fight.

A spokesperson with Portsmouth Public Schools said eight students were involved in the fight.

School staff worked to break up the scuffle and called school resource officers to help. The school went on a lockdown largely as a precautionary measure, Howard said in the message.

It was not immediately clear whether the students will face disciplinary action.
