Driver charged with DUI after crashing into police vehicle in VB

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man is facing charges including driving under the influence after he struck a police vehicle in Virginia Beach on Monday night, police say.

Virginia Beach police said in a news release the crash happened just after 9:15 p.m. on Shore Drive near Independence Boulevard.

Police said an officer was blocking one lane with their emergency lights on when a 2007 Ford F150 driven by 33-year-old Eric P. Miller, of Virginia Beach, drifted into the closed lane and hit the police vehicle.

Shore Drive was closed in the area following the crash.

The officer involved in the crash was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

Miller was charged with failure to maintain lane, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, DUI and refusal to give a sample of breath/blood.
