YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – A Yorktown man arrested in connection with a hoax call and several threats to Walmart employees was found guilty in November on a charge of providing a false report of a crime to police.
WAVY confirmed the additional charges 34-year-old Carmen Ray White II faced were nolle prossed, or withdrawn.
According to officials, deputies with the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 200 block of Bay Tree Beach Road back in September for reports of a person being held at gunpoint.
Before arriving to the scene, deputies were able to determine that the call was a hoax. Both the homeowner and alleged hostage confirmed no crime had taken place.
After an investigation, deputies identified the person who made the hoax call as White II. Deputies were also able to link White II to several threatening phone calls and texts to employees of Walmart.
White II faced a long list of charges and he was being held in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
According to court documents, he was found guilty on an amended charge of false emergency communication, response. He was sentenced to 180 days, with all but 20 days suspended.
