Smithfield Police obtained warrants Wednesday for Tresean McSweeney, 25, of Newport News in connection to a Jan. 4 shooting that took place at the Jersey Park Apartments, off of Burton Drive and near West Main Street and Westside Elementary School.

Last Saturday, police responded to another shooting at the Jersey Park Apartments, finding a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The apartment complex has been the scene of other shootings, including one in November 2023, in which shots were fired at the apartment complex.

Another shooting in July 2023 killed two people.

In February 2023, a 62-year-old man was shot at the Jersey Park Apartments.

The Jersey Park Apartments last year received around $2 million as part of a housing loan announced by Gov. Glenn Youngkin last summer to help low-income households. It was to have around 80 units available for low-income residents.
