PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A woman who was shot in the early morning hours of Oct. 8 on Choate Street has died, and charges against a man charged in connection to the shooting have been upgraded to an aggravated murder charge, according to Portsmouth Police.
According to police, officers were called to the 300 block of Choate Street at 12:26 a.m. for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a woman, later identified as Latesha Nicole Pugh, 50, with gunshot wounds. She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and she has since died.
The suspect, identified as Lamont Eugene Stevenson, 49, was taken into custody. He was initially charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, shooting within a building, shooting in commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a felon.
However, after the investigation was reclassified as a homicide, detectives with the Major Crime Unit formally charged Stevenson with aggravated murder committed during the commission of a robbery resulting in death, use of a firearm in commission of a robbery, obstruction of justice and unlawfully obstructing a call to emergency services.
