NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man is seriously hurt following an early morning shooting in Newport News.
According to dispatch, officers were called to the 60 block of Traverse Road just before 2 a.m. for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.


He was taken to the local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police say.
“Around 2 (a.m.) I heard a couple gunshots and then someone saying they’ve been shot,” said Nicholas, a resident who called 911.
There is no suspect information at this time.
WAVY reported on another shooting on Traverse Road, in the same block as Thursday’s shooting, back in December. 21-year-old Amari Maxwell died from his injuries.
