SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (WAVY) – A former math teacher at Greenbrier Academy facing child sexual abuse charges in Chesapeake is facing similar charges in Spotsylvania County.
The Chesapeake Police Department received a tip in January that 31-year-old Daniel Fleming was potentially involved with criminal activity involving children. Fleming was charged with solicitation of child sexual abuse photos and the use of communications systems to facilitate certain offenses involving children following an investigation.
According to the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, Fleming was formerly employed as a math teacher at a private school in Chesapeake and Spotsylvania, and was involved with youth ministries at a local church.
Chesapeake police notified the Spotsylvania County Child Victim Unit about their investigation, who then opened their own investigation after receiving allegations of him having inappropriate contact with a child in 2019.
Fleming, who was already being held in Chesapeake, was charged on May 15 with taking indecent liberties with a child following the investigation in Spotsylvania.
Fleming’s next court date is scheduled for July 12 at the Spotsylvania Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
The investigation remains ongoing to determine if there are any more people who may have had inappropriate contact with Fleming.
