AHOSKIE, N.C. (WAVY) — A man has been arrested in connection to a Sunday night shooting in Ahoskie that left a 3-year-old child injured, police said.

Trequan Lamar Lassiter, 20, of Ahoskie, was arrested Monday and has been charged with one count of storing a firearm accessible to a minor and one count of carrying a concealed weapon, according to Ahoskie Police, who say the charges resulted from an investigation into the shooting of the child at the Pinegate Apartments around 8 p.m. Sunday.

Lassiter is being held at the Hertford County Detention center under a $1,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Hertford District Court Aug. 13.

According to police, officers were called to the Pinegate Apartments in the 20 block of Parkwood Drive, at 8 p.m. for the report of a shooting, and when officers arrived, they found a three-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is helping with the ongoing investigation.
