PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Many people are gearing up for holiday travel and AAA has good news for gas prices as you travel to your holiday destination.

“I think people are going to be happy with gas prices this Easter weekend we saw a pretty significant drop in the last week coming down 6 cents in Hampton Roads,” said Holly Dalby, with AAA Tidewater.

Dalby said Hampton Roads’ gas is down 1 cent from yesterday.

“We are $0.50 cheaper than last year, so its hard to argue with that. We’re up from a month ago but compared to a year ago we are at $3.01 today and a year ago we were at $3.54,” said Dalby.

Looking ahead, she said it’s hard to predict summer gas prices because there are so many factors.

“So many things go into making up a gas price, the price of crude, we’re going to have our tariffs, we are switching over to the summer blend here in Virginia and most of the northern states so all of that is going to impact gas prices,” said Dalby.

AAA encourages you to be safe on the roadways as Spring Break comes to an end.
