JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A 72-year-old woman was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in what police describe as a domestic dispute turned homicide.
James City County Police responded to the 200 block of Sandy Bay Road around 3:30 p.m. for reports of a dispute.
When they arrived, they found a woman who had been shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene by medics before they could transport her, according to police.
Police have identified the victim as Irene Coates. Her husband, Robert Lee Coates, was taken into custody and charged with second degree murder and use of a firearim in commission of a felony.
