NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A 13-year-old boy was arrested after posting a threat on social media towards Rosemont Middle School earlier this week, police say.

In the early hours of Tuesday, Norfolk police say an emergency operator received a call from someone who said they saw a post on Twitter that stated, “I’m going to shoot up rosemont middle and burn it to the ground get ready.”

Norfolk police say they immediately launched an investigation into the tweet and within hours of receiving the call, detectives were able to locate the student that is believed to be responsible for it. 

According to a Norfolk Public Schools spokesperson and police, the student was located before the start of school Tuesday, questioned by police, then released into his parents’ custody.

Norfolk police say the child was charged with threatening bodily harm as a result of the investigation.

The school spokesperson said the threat was deemed to not be credible, but the principal made calls to parents alerting them of the situation.

On Friday in Virginia Beach, a student at Landstown High School was arrested for allegedly making a verbal threat to the school, according to the school principal.
