PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Giving a big congratulations to Raymond Tam for being announced Navy Expeditionary Combat Command’s Fiscal Year 2024 Sailor of the Year! Tam is an equipment operator assigned to the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 4. Originally from Chicago, he enlisted in the Navy in 2011 and has served around the world. Tam currently holds the distinct honor of leading NMCB-4’S Weight Handling Equipment Program as the Crane Supervisor, and acts as the subject matter expert for Waterfront Pile-Driving Operations.
Tam said he is incredibly honored to be named Sailor of the Year, but says the recognition isn’t about him. It’s about the team, his mentors, and the shipmates who inspire him every day.
He says, “the best part of being in the navy isn’t just the places you go, but the people you serve with and the bond of a team that becomes a family, knowing every day you’re a part of something bigger than yourself.”
As part of the Sailor of the Year program, Tam will be meritoriously promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer later this year. Another congratulations to Raymond Tam!
