PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – After 18 months in the shipyard, the U.S.S. Arlington returned to the docks. Our team at WAVY, alongside the ship’s mascot Arly the Eagle, welcomed the ship back.

This amphibious war-fighting ship is named after Arlington County to commemorate the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon. The ship’s duty is largely to bring Marines to other places of the world to fight for America’s freedom.

The crew is currently undergoing training for whatever comes next, aboard an amazing ship where America’s rich history is encapsulated.
