DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — The Dare County Regional Airport Museum hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Oct. 22 to mark the Rogallo rotating display’s debut, according to Dare County.

The temporary exhibit showcases aeronautical engineer Francis Rogallo’s influential work, featuring photos and artifacts provided by Rogallo’s family and Kitty Hawk Kites. Rogallo designed the flexible Rogallo wing, which led to the creation of modern hang gliders and paragliders.

The exhibit will be on display at the museum until a new temporary exhibit takes its place in December. Parts of the Rogallo exhibit will then be integrated into the museum’s permanent collection.

The ribbon cutting ceremony preceded the premiere of the PBS documentary Wingman: The Francis Rogallo Story at Manteo’s Pioneer Theater on Oct. 24.

“The rotating exhibit, which was put together by Billy Vaughn and the Rogallo Foundation, has been very well received by visitors, and we are honored to be part of the lead-up to the premiere of the Rogallo documentary movie,” said Dare County Regional Airport Museum Curator Tony Bruno.
