VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The third annual Breathe n Run 5K fun run-walk is this Saturday in Virginia Beach. The event supports pulmonary fibrosis awareness.
Pulmonary fibrosis is a lung disease that occurs when lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred, making breathing a challenge.
Lyla and Sanya Chandiramani created the event in 2023 in memory of their grandmother, Kavita Chandiramani, who lost her life to pulmonary fibrosis.
Lyla and Sanya say, “This event is open to all and serves as a platform to bring together individuals from all walks of life, united by their determination to make a difference. The race highlights the importance of breath and the beauty of life, creating a memorable experience and reminding runners to appreciate the gift of each breath and the freedom it brings.”
Each year, the run walk has raised more than $15,000. All proceeds go directly to support families impacted by the disease.
The Breathe n Run 5K kicks off Saturday morning, Aug. 2, at 8 a.m. The race begins on 1401 Atlantic Avenue at the Oceanfront.
