COURTLAND, Va. (WAVY) – The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore has entered into a unique partnership with a farm in Courtland, with a goal of increasing the availability of fresh produce to community members who rely on their services.
The “Farm to Foodbank” project involves Izzie’s Field, located at 30010 Camp Pkwy. in Courtland.
Farmer Elisha Barnes tends the 20-acre farm, dedicating half to crops selected by the Foodbank.
This year, they grew corn.
They rely on volunteers for harvesting the crops that will be distributed to local programs.
Harvesting is happening this week. They reached out to 10 On Your Side Tuesday to say they could use more help. They also provided several photos showing volunteers in action.
