HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Being able to practice on Thanksgiving is an important milestone for High School Football teams around the Commonwealth. It means you’re still in play, and are only three wins away from a State Championship.

Starting Friday, 11/29, multiple local teams from the around the area will compete for Region Championships and attempt to punch their tickets to the State Tournament.

In Class 4, Phoebus and Hampton will square off at Darling Stadium for a battle between longtime rivals in the Peninsula District.

“You have a huge target on your back. You can’t go into a game half-stepping, you can’t go into a ballgame overlooking your opponent. Someone is trying to make history by knocking you off,” Said Phantoms Head Coach Jeremy Blunt, who’s led his team to three straight State Championships.

Phoebus-Hampton will kickoff in Hampton at noon Saturday, 11/30.

In Class 3, we got a fun one between two teams from each side of the water, as the Norcom Greyhounds will take a trip to Williamsburg to take on the undefeated Lafayette Rams at Wanner Stadium.

“It’s a lot harder of a run than it was last year… It’s a lot of pressure when I come in here and see these banners, but I want to put another one up there,” said Lafayette Junior Running Back/Linebacker, Jamir Nesbeth.

“We’re going to be smart. We’re going to play smart, disciplined football. We’re going to bring that energy, that Portsmouth energy that Greyhound nation has been missing,” said Norcom Head Coach Anthony Hawkins

Kickoff for Lafayette-Norcom is Friday, 11/29 at 7 p.m.

And finally in Class 2, Poquoson went nearly unblemished this season and sit at 11-1. They’ll take on 7th seeded King William, who knocked off Bruton last week. The Islanders will look to hoist Region 2A gold Friday, 11/29 at 7 p.m. at Poquoson Middle.
