Blog: Recent snow tally. Milder & melting today

Last Friday I laid it all out there. As the snow was headed for the region I put out my snow forecast for Friday night into Saturday morning.

Snow Forecast From Last Friday

Amounts on the models kept increasing, but I was leery for places over the Southside and North Carolina. This was due to the various models continuing to show a mix zone in those locations, and possibly even some rain for a time.

Wintry Forecast (Recap)

This ended up panning out. There was not only a mix over that zone, but there was some rain early Saturday morning for a time which caused quite a bit of melting. So the amounts were a little less than forecast there. Here is a map that I put together with some reports and from the National Weather Service reports. The snow over the Southside was mainly on the grass and melty.

Snowfall Over The Region

I feel like I did really good, and that the weather team did a good job. The higher amounts shifted north a bit, but overall the amounts were pretty close considering that mix zone.

Anyway, yesterday we had highs in the low 40s. This caused some melting to happen where snow was on the ground. However, last night temps dropped down to the 20s. So there was a refreeze.

Today there should be even more of a melt as temps warm to near 50 this afternoon.

Forecast Temps Today

Skies will be partly cloudy as high pressure slides a little farther offshore.

Regional Weather Map

There is a cold front to our west. This will move through during the evening. It may bring in a couple of sprinkles or flurries, but I doubt there will be anything more than that.

We’ll cool down tomorrow with highs in the low 40s.

Forecast Temps Tomorrow

At least we’ll be dry with lots of sunshine. Then we’ll have even colder temps on Wednesday. High temps will only be in the mid 30s.

Temperature Trend

Low temps will be in the 20s with some teens inland both Wednesday and Thursday mornings. However, we should warm up a bit later this week. We’ll probably rise to the 50s by Saturday.
