Update: As of the 11am update tropical storm Melissa has formed. Update below.

We had some really nice weather yesterday. There was a lot of sunshine with high temps in the 60s. We will actually have a long stretch of nice weather, but temps will go up and down a bit in the short-term. Today we have high pressure overhead with a small warm front approaching from the west.

Regional Weather Map

There is a cold front farther to the west. More on that in a moment. We’ll have lots of sunshine through the day with lots of dry air as well. Dew points are in the 40s, and that won’t change today. As the warm front skims our area it will increase the winds for a bit out of the southwest. They will gust up to 25mph between the midday and the late afternoon.

Wind Gusts Forecast

These conditions will push our temperatures all the way up into the low-mid 70s.

Temperature Forecast

This is a steep climb. Especially for the places like Chesapeake and Ahoskie that started out in the upper 30s. It should actually turn into a pretty nice day!

By tonight the cool front will quickly slip through the region. Clouds will increase, and we may have a few spotty showers overnight.

I’ll be doing a rain dance, but I will not get my hopes up. Because after this there won’t be any rain for at least a few days.

Tomorrow we’ll only cool down slightly. Highs will be near 70 degrees.

Forecast Temps Tomorrow

We’ll have lots of sunshine again with winds gusting to 25mph out of the west/northwest. After that we’ll have a stretch of dry/cool weather. High temps will be in the 60s, and low temps will be mainly in the 40s.

Temperature Trend

We’ll be very dry for a while. The dew points will be in the 30s for several days.

Muggy Meter

We’ll likely stay cool and dry through the weekend.

Things are heating up in the Caribbean Sea. There is a tropical disturbance that is likely to become tropical storm Melissa soon. It is moving west. It is definitely a potent cluster of showers and storms. However, it was just disorganized enough this morning to keep it from becoming a tropical storm. (As of this writing).

Enhance Satellite

Regardless, this feature will slow down a bit as it moves west. That will allow it to become that tropical storm today.
