Today is the first day of Spring, and it will feel like it. We are going to have a warm and breezy day for sure. There won’t be much rain until late in the afternoon, but there will be some scattered showers and storms towards the evening. Let’s talk about it.
Today we have high pressure pushing offshore with a cold front approaching from the west.
Winds are starting to pick up as I write this, but winds will become pretty strong by the afternoon.
Wind gusts will reach up between 25 and 30mph between the late afternoon and early evening. This is outside of any rain showers or thunderstorms. We’ll have increasing clouds today and moisture. There will be a few showers possible by the late afternoon.
However, there will be a broken line of showers and storms moving through during the early evening.
The rain should wrap up by about 9-10mph. There will be some fuel for a few storms, but it shouldn’t be anything like we had this last weekend. There will be some gusty winds and brief heavy rain. That’s for sure. One piece of fuel will be warm temperatures. We will top off in the upper 70s this afternoon, and temps won’t fall much during the early evening.
However, one key ingredient is deep moisture. While the dew points will rise a bit today. They really won’t be high at all.
A dew point above 60 is kind of the minimum for severe weather unless you have very strong upper-level wind support (wind shear). However, the wind shear won’t be that strong this time. So with that lack of strong instability I only expect a couple of strong storms. The lack of deep humidity will also lead us to not get too much rainfall. The models are mostly showing about a quarter to a half an inch.
Tomorrow will be much cooler and drier. It will also be pretty windy in the morning.
Winds could gust to 30mph near the shore in the morning with gusts to 25mph inland. This could lead to some wind restrictions over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Winds will gradually decrease through the afternoon.
We will have lots of sunshine, but high temps will only be in the upper 50s.
We’ll have dry/quiet weather on Saturday. High temps will rise to the upper 60s.
It should be pretty nice out! However, a wind-shift will come through late Saturday into Sunday. That will cool us down to the upper 50s. We’ll be partly cloudy.
There will be some more rain on Monday. For now it just looks like a few scattered showers. Stay tuned for updates.
