Blog: A cool and wet Memorial Day

Memorial Day Forecast

Luckily we have had some great weather over the last couple of days. There was a lot of sun, and it was dry and mild both Saturday and Sunday. I will say that it was a little cool for the beaches, but at least it was comfortable for all. However, today we are going to have some cool/wet weather for this Memorial Day. Let’s talk about it…

There is a stationary front to our south today. We are definitely on the cool side of it.

Regional Weather Map

The thing is…Warmer/more humid air is pushing up north of the front. It is pushing up overtop of our cooler/drier air mass. That forces the air to condense into drop droplets that then fall out of the sky. This is called overunning precipitation. The good news is that there is rarely heavy rain nor thunderstorms with this setup. However, it can create a soggy day. So with that said, we’ll have scattered rain showers on and off through at least midday.

Future Trak Midday

As we go through the afternoon we’ll start to dry out. It’s tough to say exactly when the rain will stop, but the chances will definitely drop through time. If we’re lucky then we’ll also get some clearing later today.

Future Trak This Evening

There will be an east/northeast breeze running at about 5-15mph. All of this will work to keep the temps well below average. We’ll only top off in the upper 60s to near 70 today.

Forecast Temps Today

We’ll dry out for a while this evening and tonight. Low temps will be in the 50s. Then tomorrow we’ll have a mix of sun and clouds as the front sinks just a bit more to our south. There may be enough moisture for some isolated showers during the day, but I don’t expect much. High temps will be near 70 degrees.

Forecast Temps Tomorrow

The front will lift back north as a warm front on Wednesday. As that happens there will be a large band of rain showers, and probably some thunderstorms, coming up front the south.

Future Trak Wednesday

There could be some heavy downpours that day as well. It may not be a complete washout, but the odds for rain are high from the mid-morning until the late afternoon. Check back for updates on the timing of that rain. High temps will be in the 70s.

We’ll have some more rain chances later this week, but at least high temps will warm to the 80s.
