PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — I have about one month left at WAVY as a digital intern. As I’m beginning to reminisce on my time here, a standout experience that comes to mind was shadowing WAVY’s promotions department.
I started off my time with promotions by walking into their office and meeting one of the Promotions Producers, Mike Booth. Mike first introduced himself and the promotions staff to me, while also giving a quick tour of the office space. We then sat down at his desk where he explained to me the details of his job. As a Promotions Producer, his primary role is to create advertisements for the station that attract daily viewers. These are the types of advertisements that one would see during a commercial break or before an online video. He guided me through his creative and showed me some of his personal best advertisements from over the years.
After our conversation ended, I then briefly chatted with WAVY’s Promotions Topical Producer, Antonio Jones. During our chat, he told me about his role and how he is primarily in charge of creating WAVY’s social media promotions. He also showed me a few of his best digital advertisements, along with some funny bloopers.
Once my time with promotions had concluded, it showed me the importance of their role in order to get people to tune into WAVY’s daily broadcast. The experience reminded me of the importance of each department and how every single role is what makes the WAVY clock tick.
