What Have I Been Up To?
I was selected to be the 2025 WAVY Fall Intern for Sales and Social Media, and it has been quite the last two weeks. When I started my orientation with WAVY, I was super excited to begin officially. After fully touring the building, meeting some of my fellow interns and my supervisors, and getting a cool badge, I couldn’t wait to start my first day. Obviously, this excitement came with a little bit of overstimulation, especially with the amount of information and tasks we were given, but nonetheless, I was ready.
My first day was nothing like I expected. I was bracing myself for being shy, sitting in a corner, and just people watching the whole day. I quickly realized just how hands on this internship truly is. My supervisor, Ms. Earlisha Scott, had me tour the sales floor with her and introduced me to everyone that was there. I got a lot of names, some of which I actually remembered, and got to see how nice everyone was. The sales floor can be very confusing, especially with all the offices, but I learned to love it – especially since I was given my own office! Furthermore, I was able to take my picture for my badge, create my WAVY email signature, and shadowed Ms. Earlisha for the majority of the day. It was super fun!

Then, things kind of took a turn when both my supervisor and I had to call out sick for the remaining of the week. However, I did not let this bring me down!
When I returned back to the office, I quickly began fully jumping into the sales aspect of my internship. Ms. Earlisha helped me to understand the ins and outs of cold calling, the technology platforms we use in sales, the network information, proposals, and so much more.

Furthermore, in the office, I was fully immersed in learning about the importance of AI in the technology used in the sales and marketing department. I got to learn a lot about the Cloud, Project X, Dayparts, and Matrix. This was super confusing at first, but now, I am starting to become more confident in using them. I also got the chance to meet with Ms. Emily, in the social media department. We talked a lot about Waymark and its use of making commercials, as well as how Meta is used to market and campaign advertisements on social media. This was super cool to sit in and see her do, and I’m excited to learn more from her.
Lastly, the coolest experience I want to touch on was the opportunity I had to sit in on a taping of the Hampton Roads Show. My supervisor and I drove to Williamsburg to the Wagster’s Magic Theater. We watched them do a quick magic show to be shown on air at a later time, and even spoke with the owners about their business expenditure. It was fun and a nice break from the office while still on business!

Overall, it has only been two weeks into this internship and I have already learned and experienced so much. I’m super excited to visit the other departments and learn more about the sales/social media world!
