PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Man, oh man…. FINALLY A MONTH IN!

Every day when I wake up before my shift, I just say a prayer on how beyond grateful I am for this opportunity and living in the moment. The last time you guys heard from me; it was just the beginning of my internship. Now, today I am 4 weeks & 96 hours into my WAVY internship, and I’ve enjoyed every second of it! In the two-to-three weeks you guys haven’t heard from me, I’ve done so much and frankly don’t even know where to start.

For starters, with the sports department, I worked under James Kattato for the first time as he scheduled me for a practice standup of the Sports wrap. I was super excited and couldn’t wait for that day!

To begin my third week, I once again got to sit in with Craig Loper, Brian Parson & Jeff Snyder for Sports wrapOT. As the day progressed, I had the opportunity to write some slugs for the NBA FINALS and the College World Series. To end off the shift, Craig and I worked on Adobe Premiere to edit parts of interviews and transcribe them into the slug for the 10:45 p.m. Sports Wrap.

My next day in, I was back with the production department, and it was fantastic! Today, I was with Kenisha Stringfield and other interns who shadowed that day. It started with me going out to the patio for an on-the-grill segment with a chef and Chris Reckling. The chef cooked watermelon, which many people in the studio were shocked about, and made some lamb kebabs. After the grill segment, we came back into the studio where the chef had another surprise for us, where he made an entire pan of beef kebabs for the entire Hampton Roads Show. Shout-out to the Renaissance Portsmouth Waterfront Hotel. Ending off the show we had musician Brian Grilli sing his song “Little Things,” and this was my first experience with live music on Fridays, and I loved it! To end off my third week, I came into the station on Saturday after Cam Thomas, fifth-year NBA player with the Nets and native of Chesapeake, Va. held his first annual community day, which was super dope! I got to watch Craig go out to get the story, come back into the station to edit it, then he went on to speak about it on his sports wrap segment.

Back for my fourth week, Monday morning, I floor directed for the Hampton Roads Show and it was a sentimental show as it was Co-host Tara Wheeler’s second-to-last show before leaving the station. My next day was completely unexpected! James invited me to go out to capture film at Harbor Park Stadium for the Norfolk Tides Game. Though it was nearly 100 degrees, it was my first time at a Tides game and my second ever sporting event attended at WAVY.

To end off this amazing week and blog, I just want to say thank you again WAVY & NEXSTAR for this opportunity. I also want to thank you guys who’ve been tuning into my blogs and being a part of my journey.
