PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – This past week at WAVY has been one of the most hands-on and rewarding parts of my internship so far. I’ve been diving deeper into writing spots and doing interviews, which has really helped me sharpen my skills as a storyteller. Getting more comfortable on camera has been a major goal for me—and I can honestly say I’m making steady progress.
One of the standout moments from this week was getting to cover the Dorian Finney-Smith Foundation Softball Tournament. It was a great experience, not just because I got to interview people, but because it showed me the real impact athletes can make in their communities. Talking to participants, capturing the energy of the event, and reporting on it all in real-time was both exciting and eye-opening. It reminded me why I love this field there’s nothing better than being in the middle of a great story.
Outside of reporting, I’ve also been working hard behind-the-scenes to bring my project together. It’s been a lot of planning, writing, and creative brainstorming, but seeing the pieces start to come together has been incredibly motivating. There’s still work to do, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come.
This week gave me a deeper appreciation for the hustle it takes to produce great content. From writing spots to filming and interviewing, every part of the process is teaching me something new and I’m fully locked in.
Big things are coming.
