(WAVY) — The snow is long gone — or at least snowfall is long gone. The snow on the ground will stick around for quite some time as cold, cold air is settling in.

Thursday night, skies will clear out and temperatures will drop quickly — lows come Friday morning should be in the teens, with several spots in the single digits. Consider dripping the faucets tonight if this threshold causes issues with your household piping.

Anything that has melted today and hasn’t dried will refreeze tonight, so do expect roads to remain slick and icy through most of Friday morning. However, we have plenty of sunshine on the way for the day… likely from start to finish. This will help out our roadways greatly by the afternoon, especially with temperatures slowly crawling to the mid and upper 30s.

Anything wet on the roads that doesn’t dry in Friday’s sunshine will refreeze again by Saturday morning — lows should be in the teens again. Saturday afternoon will crawl our temperatures into the mid and upper 30s with some passing clouds. Then by Sunday we can really begin the thawing process, highs will rebound into the mid and upper 40s!

So if you’ve been enjoying the view of the winter wonderland, it’ll stick around for a bit! Especially with the amount of snow that piled up.

Many locations across Hampton Roads picked up at least a half of a foot, with isolated spots closing in on a foot of snow!

Careful on the roads over the next few days and stay warm!
