Michael Rinker joined the WAVY 10 News team in July of 2025 as a morning reporter.
He joins the team after spending five years in southern Alabama with our sister station in Dothan.
Michael grew up in Virginia, just a few hours north of Hampton Roads in Spotsylvania County where he graduated from Massaponax High School.
Being near the nation’s capital, he quickly became interested in professional sports and government, specifically in how each is portrayed on television.
Michael earned a broadcast journalism degree from West Virginia University with a minor in sports communications.
After graduating he joined the industry as the Sports Director in Dothan, Alabama before moving over into news, joining the morning show as an anchor. Then, in 2023 Michael moved from mornings to evenings to head the desk of the shows at night.
Outside of work, Michael enjoys watching and playing sports, hiking, and hanging out in the community!
