SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Suffolk police say four homes were struck by bullets overnight in the Berkshire Meadows neighborhood.
Officers responded to the area of Kensington Boulevard and Squire Reach just before midnight on March 25 and discovered that four homes had been struck, one multiple times. No injuries were reported, but one bullet did enter a residence.
Police said Friday that multiple persons of interest had been detained.
Around 7:45 p.m. Friday, police said they had made an arrest in connection with the gunfire. Police have charged Emanuel Antonio Brendelson, 18, of Suffolk, with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Authorities said Brendelson is being held at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail and additional charges are forthcoming.
Police said they were canvassing the neighborhood Friday morning for more evidence and they were in the area for several hours. The areas of Catapult Court and Squire Reach at Kensington Boulevard were closed as of 9:45 a.m. Police left the area by 12:30 p.m.
“Quite interesting being awakened by gunfire,” said a resident who asked to not be identified because of safety concerns. She and her husband were woken up by gunshots. “We thought that they might have been firecrackers, so we kind of like, OK, dismissed it. Then maybe about, you know, 15 minutes later, that’s when we heard the same gun going off again.”
Their first thoughts went to their three kids, who were asleep in their beds.
“We had to get the kids from upstairs and bring them down, so it was a little frightening,” said the neighbor. “You just never know, wasn’t sure, you know, who the target was. Bullets don’t have names.”
During the day, investigators focused on two cars parked in the cul de sac.
“I’ve never had this happen before so it’s kind of, you know, nerve-wracking, you know what I mean,” said neighbor Brian Crump, who was also woken up by the gunshots.
