HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A man is dead after a shooting in Hampton on Friday night.

Police said the call for the shooting came in around 10:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of Bethel Avenue.

“It’s frightening,” said Hampton resident E.B. Moore, Jr., “You wonder, ‘why?’ Why are young people so careless and not caring about life in itself.”

Police arrived and found the man still alive.

“When I first heard it, I was frightened because I said — it’s such a shame. It’s such a loss,” Moore continued.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. He was identified on Monday as Edwards Neal Jr.

Initial investigation of the shooting revealed that Neal was shot while inside the residence.

Police have not released any suspect information or said if anyone’s in custody.
