NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — An arrest has been made after a 13-year-old boy was fatally shot on Mother’s Day.
Norfolk police say they’ve charged 18-year-old Trenton J. Conwell with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharging a weapon from a vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection to the death of Jaydon Davis.
Davis died at Norfolk General on May 21 after the shooting in the area of Lincoln Street and East Olney Road on May 12.
Conwell, of the 700 block of Chapel Street, was arrested Thursday afternoon in the 800 block of Tidewater Drive without incident, and police say it happened thanks to help from the community.
“The community answered our call for assistance with this case and because of it we are one step closer to bringing justice to the Davis family. I want the citizens of Norfolk to know that the women and men of the Norfolk Police Department will stop at nothing to make our communities safer, however, we all have a part, said Chief Larry D. Boone in a press release.
Police say Conwell was identified and arrested less than 48 hours after officers went door-to-door in the Young Terrace neighborhood asking for help in the case.
Detectives haven’t released a motive for the shooting, but the invesitgation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
Conwell is being held at Norfolk City Jail without bond.
