NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk police are investigating both a fatal auto-pedestrian crash and another hit-and-run incident in the city Monday night.

The fatal auto-pedestrian crash happened in the area of North Military Highway and Poplar Hall Road just after 9:10 p.m.

Police say a man, who’s been identified as Ronelle E. Franklin, 25, of the 400 block of of Lucy Lane in Chesapeake, was struck by a large moving truck as he was trying to cross North Military Highway.

He was taken to the hospital, where he died shortly after arrival. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and stayed at the scene.

Police blocked off the northbound lanes in the 500 block of North Military Highway to investigate the incident.

The second auto versus pedestrian accident was a hit-and-run that happened around 10:23 p.m. in the 1500 block of East Brambleton Avenue, near Norfolk State University.

Norfolk police say a 23-year-old man told officers he was trying to cross the 600 block of Park Avenue near a 7-Eleven when he was hit by a silver sedan. 

Police are looking for the driver of that silver sedan and ask anyone with information to contact the Norfolk Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or submit a tip through the P3 Tips mobile app.

The incidents are the latest in a gruesome week of vehicle-involved incidents in Norfolk and Hampton Roads as a whole.

Last Thursday night in Norfolk, a motorcyclist died in an accident on Granby Street and a woman and child were injured after police say they were hit by a car. Last Tuesday, a bicyclist was sent to the hospital in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle.

In Newport News, a 41-year-old woman died Thursday night and two teenagers were hit by a pickup truck on Sunday afternoon. The teens are expected to be OK after the accident.

In Suffolk, the driver of an SUV died and the passenger was seriously hurt after an accident on Holland Road on Sunday.

A man was also taken to the hospital Friday night after an accident on Virginia Beach Boulevard.

On the Eastern Shore, a Northampton Sheriff’s Deputy is recovering after his vehicle was hit during a traffic stop.
