NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Music, dance and military honors filled the auditorium of Brooker T. Washington High School on Thursday night, all to honor a classmate who touched many in less than 2 years.

Daemon Person was 15 years old when he was shot on March 19, according to family. Norfolk Police found his body at his family’s townhouse on Corprew Avenue, near Norfolk State University.

A 16-year-old was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to the Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney’s office. A 15-year-old was charged with accessory after the fact.

“He was a member to the chorus, he was the member of the NJROTC, he was a member of the track team,” said Jaelin Mitchell, a classmate of Daemon. “We knew we had to do something.”

The service was followed by a candlelight vigil at Daemon’s home.
