VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A Virginia Beach man who pleaded guilty to a string of bank robberies has been sentenced for the crimes.
Investigators say 50-year-old Russell Carter robbed all of the banks the same way — he would walk up to the teller and give them a note demanding money.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he robbed banks throughout Virginia and North Carolina. He managed to rob 11 banks between March 2016 and November 2017 before he was apprehended by police.
Carter was sentenced to 20 years in prison and ordered to pay $24,000 in restitution.
The FBI Richmond’s Central Virginia Violent Crime Task Force was involved in the investigation.
