NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk man who is a previously convicted felon is now being accused of illegally possessing a handgun.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said a grand jury indicted 29-year-old Earlon Mitchell on Thursday with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Prosecutors said two Norfolk police officers approached Mitchell on March 9, with the intent to arrest him on outstanding warrants. However, Mitchell tried to run.
Officers detained him after a struggle, and found a loaded Kel-Tec 9mm Luger caliber semi-automatic handgun in his pant leg, prosecutors said.
Mitchell could face up to 10 years in prison if he is convicted.
