NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A Norfolk federal judge ruled a doctor at a mental hospital urged one patient to attack another, and paid him off with food, drugs and alcohol.
Dr. Sridhar Yaratha worked at Central State Hospital in Petersburg.
Farabee was attacked by a man named Justin Evans on three different occasions.
Court documents describe one attack in the middle of the night as the stuff of horror movies. It says Evans charged into Farabee’s room while he was sleeping. Farabee suffered injuries to his eye, head, neck, chest and bites to his leg.
Evans testified that the doctor encouraged him to attack, and that he received gifts after he did.
The judge also ruled against a nurse, Nitaya Barnette, who was accused of making up an assault report. The judge ordered the doctor and Barnette to pay $385,000 in damages to Farabee.
