VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Virginia Beach man will serve three years in prison for shooting his dog and lighting his shed on fire.

A judge on Tuesday sentenced Luke Alvarado Hill to 15 years, with 12 suspended. In May 2017, Virginia Beach crews found Hill’s detached garage on fire on Princess Anne Road, with his pit bull inside.

Veterinarians say the dog had been shot, and was still alive when the fire started.

Hill pleaded guilty last December.
