SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — One adult and four students at King’s Fork Middle School in Suffolk were injured Wednesday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus and a cement truck, according to police.
The accident happened around 2:20 p.m. in the 500 block of Hillpoint Boulevard.

Police say the school bus was carrying students and four of them reported injuries due to the crash. Three of the four individuals were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The fourth individual was treated and released on-scene.
One woman told 10 On Your Side her granddaughter was on that bus in a seat just inches away from the broken window.
“I heard a whole lot of kids crying and I’m like oh my God,” Sonya Copeland said.
Sonya Copeland was visibly emotional as she recalled the phone call she got from her granddaughter Wednesday afternoon. She was on the bus heading home from Kings Fork Middle School when suddenly the crash happened.
“She had cement in her hair, she had rocks in her hair,” Copeland said about her granddaughter. “I just thank God that all the kids didn’t get hurt too bad.”
Copeland says she’s grateful for emergency crews who answered the call.
One adult was also taken to a local hospital as a result of the crash.
The driver of the cement truck was issued a summons.
“The safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority,” said Dr. John B.
Gordon III, Superintendent of Suffolk Public Schools, in a statement. “We are grateful for the swift response of emergency services and for the care shown by our school staff in
comforting and supporting our students during this incident.”
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
