ARLINGTON, Va. (WAVY) — Independent candidate for Virginia Governor Donna Charles has ended her campaign.
On Oct. 9 at 6:49 p.m., just ten minutes before the 2025 Virginia Gubernatorial Debate, Charles announced on X that her bid for Governor of Virginia would be coming to an end and that she would be endorsing the Democratic nominee Abigail Spanberger.
According to her campaign’s official statement, “[Charles] is confident that exiting the race now and supporting Abigail Spanberger, the candidate who best reflects our democratic values and ambitions for Virginia, is the right decision at the right time.”
The 2025 Virginia gubernatorial race continues between Republican nominee Winsome Earle-Sears and Democratic nominee Abigail Spanberger. Early in-person voting runs from Sept. 19 through Nov. 1. Election Day is on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
