York Co. Schools warns of ‘potentially suspicious individuals’ spotted near Langley bus stop

UPDATE Jan. 31, 2020: The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said the incident involving suspicious individuals near a bus stop was a “misunderstanding.”

The “woman at the bus stop was actually someone who had just moved from one side of the housing complex to another. She was dropping her child off for the bus. The child left something behind and the woman was waving for them to come back to get the item,” the sheriff’s office said.

YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — The York County school division notified parents Thursday morning about a report of “potentially suspicious individuals in a dark-colored vehicle” near a bus stop in a Langley housing community.

Schools officials didn’t have many details about the incident, but said the vehicle was spotted Thursday morning near the Eagle Loop bus stop, which serves Bethel Manor Elementary, Tabb Middle and Tabb High.

The report was sent to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.

The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the area of Peacemaker Avenue and Eagle Loop at 8:18 a.m. for a report of a suspicious vehicle near a bus stop.

Two younger women, maybe in their 20s, were in a black mid-size car motioning for a student to come to the vehicle.

There was no verbal communication between the student and women.

Deputies were still in the area a few hours later investigating the incident.

Deputies will increase patrol units in the area.

“If you see a suspicious vehicle in your neighborhood – particularly during the pick-up and drop-off bus stop times, please report this information to the Sheriff’s Office and the school,” the district said in a release on Facebook.
