NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man and woman from Houston were arrested and charged with prescription fraud after attempting to fill fake prescriptions at a Walgreens Pharmacy on Saturday. 

According to Newport News police, they were dispatched to the pharmacy located in the 14400 block of Warwick Boulevard for a report of fraud around 4 p.m. 

When officers arrived, they say a pharmacist told them a woman had dropped off three prescriptions to be filled. When the pharmacist checked the prescriptions, she says she found out the doctor did not prescribe the medications and the man listed on the prescriptions was not a patient. 

Police say the woman who had dropped off the prescriptions, later identified as 52-year-old Demetris Willis from Houston, was taken into custody after she returned to the Walgreens.  

The man who was seen driving the vehicle that Willis got out of fled from officers on foot when they attempted to talk to him, according to police. They caught him in the median of Warwick Boulevard and Denbigh Boulevard and took him into custody. 

He was identified as 40-year-old Wesley Walker of Houston. 

Officers say they searched the vehicle and found several prescription medications with multiple names on them, all filled that same day. 

Both Willis and Walker were charged with 14 counts of prescription fraud.
