VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Just in time for back-to-school season, BayPort Credit Union announced a donation of $25,000 and 450 pounds of school supplies to go towards Virginia Beach City Public Schools.

According to a release, the donation was made in part to support the VBCPS Office of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) for the 2025-26 school year.

During Harbor Park’s School Supply Drive Night on Aug. 6, VBCPS Superintendent Dr. Donald E. Robertson Jr. was given the $25,000 check by BayPort President and CEO Jim Mears. Afterwards, both the BayPort Foundation and Norfolk Tides were able to collect 450 pounds of school supplies in order to benefit VBCPS students, the release states.

“BayPort is honored to make this contribution to help empower local kids and engage families,” Mears said. “We support Virginia Beach Public Schools and their commitment to ensuring local students have the resources and opportunities they need to not just get by but to thrive.”

In addition to the School Supply Drive Night, on Aug. 16, BayPort sponsored the VBCPS Back-to-School Care Fair at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. During the free fair, attendees were able to receive free haircuts, vision screenings and school-entry physicals.

“We are incredibly grateful for BayPort Credit Union’s generous support of our students, families and staff,” Robertson said. “Partnerships like this help us extend critical services and supplies to our community and ensure every child has what they need to start the school year with confidence and pride.”
