NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — More than 500,000 passengers traveled through Norfolk International Airport in July, making it the busiest month in the airport’s history.
In July, 514,133 passengers flew in or out of Norfolk International Airport, the first time the airport exceeded 500,000 passengers in a month. It’s a 4.8% increase from the same period last year, when 490,460 people came through the airport. It puts the airport on pace to have its busiest summer ever, breaking its mark from 2024.

Through July, more than 2.8 million passengers have traveled through Norfolk International, up a little more than 1% from the same period in 2024.

The airport earlier this year was rated one of the world’s best domestic airports, and is the top U.S. airport in its category.
More than 4.86 million travelers came through Norfolk International in 2024 as the airport is in the midst of a nearly $1 billion expansion project that includes a new customs facility, terminal upgrades, an on-site hotel, moving walkways, a park-and-wait lot, a new rental car facility, three new gates in Concourse A and a brand new departures building.
JetBlue recently held its inaugural flight from Norfolk to Boston, and the airport is hopeful of adding international destinations in the not-too-distant future.

The airport recently began a new $21.7 million project to extend Robin Hood Road through the site of an inactive runway and create a four-way intersection to give travelers an easier way to get to and from the airport.
