PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — It’s almost that time again when two-a-days will prove their worth when young men hit the gridiron for Friday night football.

However, Malcolm Xavier Walker may end up watching Friday Night Flights highlights from the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. That’s where the Atlanta man is being held on a charge of scamming the father of a York County High school football player.

York Poquoson Sheriff Ron Montgomery has the X’s and O’s of an alleged game that started last year when the victim approached Walker with hopes he could develop a winning strategy for the son’s football future.

“He [the father] was coaching youth sports down there [in the Atlanta area],” Montgomery said. “And the suspect, Mr. Walker, was involved with those sports as well. And originally, it started with [the promise of] a highlight video. And then after that, there were conversations that, for a certain sum of money, that he could arrange a trip to, for example, a major college like Alabama.

“Walker would then present an excuse. This went on for a period of time, and an excess of $20,000 was sent. And finally, in January of this year, the victim realized that none of these promises had ever materialized — no trips, no coaches meetings, no anything close to what was represented that he could do.”

The alleged game ended late last month when Walker was extradited to Virginia on a felony charge of larceny by false pretense in York County.
