SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — One person died, and another was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash in Suffolk Friday morning.

Suffolk Police responded to a multi-vehicle accident in the 3900 block of Whaleyville Boulevard at approximately 8:15 a.m. It involved two cars and a commercial motor vehicle.

An occupant in one car was pronounced dead at the scene. The decedent was identified as 69-year-old Alvin Lee Ward Jr. Another occupant of the car sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital by Suffolk Fire & Rescue.

An occupant of the second car was also taken by Suffolk Fire & Rescue to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The driver of the commercial motor vehicle did not sustain any injuries.

The 3900 block of Whaleyville Boulevard was shut down in both directions for almost six hours but has since reopened.

This is an ongoing investigation.
